I'm A Threetard by debureturns I'm A Threetard by debureturns
Pixel art a-go-go, baby!

It may have it's fair share of haters, but those of us with more than two working brain cells can see that the PS3 is a serious piece of kit. It's stylishly designed on both a software and hardware level (feather-touch buttons!), and has the backing of a lot of Japanese developers. I'm not saying that it's better than the X360 or the Wii, but i don't think it deserves the crap that it's getting from gaming vegetables across the Internet.

I likes. "The better than" thing, Ohh that takes me back to when I was a little kid. Every kid would say the super nintendo was best, while it had great games you can't deny the genesis was just as good. This generation of videogame systems is visually much better and most major games are multiplatform now. We can never avoid "The better than" crap, which I think people usually say because they wanted the other system .

You'll find that a lot of the people who disrespect consoles are actually very young and immature (teenage, or earlier); i find that as people get older and appreciate the industry as a whole, discussion becomes more mature. The true gamer looks past the machines, and concentrates on the games - if the industry was run by children, we wouldn't have some of the truly great games we have today, because they wouldn't go to the classics as reference.

It doesn't play PS2 games? I didn't know... i don't think i've ever tried to run a PS2 game on the PS3. Well, i guess if you have a look around the game stores in the New Year, there may well be a sale on so you can get a PS2 dirt-cheap.

And thankyou. :D

Thankyou, Fern - i was rather keen on this one, myself! I'm slowly getting into pixel art, and the pixel joypad actually looks like what it's supposed to be (this time!) :D

As for the Playstation 3, i personally think it's a great console, but if you're not a hardcore fighting games fan i would suggest waiting until the price drops a bit (which i'm sure it will, soon enough).

Finally someone out there who doesn't wanna bash the poor lil PS3, good for you lad! Have yet to get the chance to play it but your quite right with all of it s software/style/performance.

Rather rude to see so many chaps bash it just cause it doesn't have as many good games out yet, lol.

Thumbs up to the pixel work too man, where the hell does the name threetard come from? ^o^

I would strongly recommend you get one if you're looking for a new console, man. It really doesn't deserve a lot of the criticism it's getting - after all, people aren't doing the same to the PS and PS2, so why the hostility for the third generation? As you say, there aren't too many great games out for it at the moment, but then it's still a very new machine.

I'm pleased you liked the pixelling, bro' - i might get into that a bit more in the future. As for the term 'threetard', that's an amalgamation of 'three' (PS3), and 'retard'. :D

I can appreciate your point of view, Jake. A lot of games today are derivative of those that have come before - i'd be foolish to argue otherwise.

My opinion is that there's still a lot of potential in the games industry, and that pretty much every console has had it's fair share of decent games (there have been exceptions to this, but in general). I think a lot of the time how much quality software on each machine is in the eye of the beholder - i imagine our taste in games differs, so what i see as being a great game might not be your cup of tea. For instance, i'm a big fighting games fan, so i probably get more out of the PS3 than someone who's an avid platform games player. So, in theory, every console will be a classic to someone out there. I'm not trying to say 'Everybody come and agree with me on how great the PS3 is', i'm saying 'those people who like the PS3 are welcome to come and use this stamp'.

As for saying 'hostility for the third generation', i was specificially meaning the third generation of Playstation. My standpoint is that even if every PS3 game on it sucks, it becomes an expensive PS2 - but then i liked the PS2, so that doesn't seem too bad to me.

Why the hostility for the 3rd generation? Are you kidding me? It's because today's games have no originality, except Metroid, which still kicks ass. I mean seriously, today's games compared to the Super Nintendo, are absolute crap. The SNES was such a good system that it was hard to actually find a shitty game on it. Just like it's hard to find a decent game on any recent console.

I'll always love the PS3.

it didn't DIE on me, like my other consoles. The 360 should not die like that, honestly.

I maybe sound like a fanboy but... sorry, It sucks, PS3 is only good to preppy's eyes, but not for brawlers like me (and I'm not talking about SSBB) I saw that i preffer to spend 8 mexican pesos in an old school arcade center than to spend my motorcycle budget for playing the same thing I has been playing in older days... come on you are getting used to the same trash over and over and over. Or you can download Mugen for free and request us characters you want to make your own fighting game and don't keep complaining on things like "why didn't they add (put your hero name here) on (put the fighting game of your preference here)?" so PS3 is and always be, at least for me, an expensive piece of junk

Well bro', i'm not going to try and change your mind. I'm a brawler, like you (i pretty much only bought my PS3 for the fighting games!) - i wouldn't personally consider myself to be preppy, but maybe i'm wrong.

As for Mugen, i haven't played it - i personally prefer to play the official versions of the games when they're released. It looks like an interesting system (i've seen some matches on YouTube), but i wasn't really that excited about the Vs. games when they came out, and it seems that Mugen is similar to that sort of engine.

Also, it's cool to hear you're supporting the arcades - they seem to be declining in popularity, so it's nice that there are still fans out there who use them.

well sorry for that, I don't meant to call you preppy, it was just an opinion, in fact I hate PS controllers due they damaged my left thumb so many times (ironic, isn't it?) also PS1 and PS2 consoles give me a very bad time due to they go out of service to easy... the true reason that I returned for consoles was Wii and games like DBZ, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Smash Bros Brawl and Bully (OMFG I love that last game) they make me feel like I CAN REALLY do a Kamehameha or a Shoryuken (except for brawl, who i only play when my friends request too) and Bully one makes me feel like I'm in my elementary school again.

Well, by last I agree on something that one friend advice me: "when 2 people seems to disagree on something, just respecting the other perspective and end the topic"

If it has the backing of a lot of Japanese developers then why do the games really suck? Why is Resistance and Ratchet and Clank the only decent games on the PS3? Nah, I'll go for Super Metroid, Mario Kart 64, Contra 3: The Alien Wars, DOOM, Half Life, Team Fortress 2, Quake, etc. Not to mention I can play all those games on my PC which whoops the shit out of the PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii. You can not only play emulators, but it's backwards compatible with even the first games that came out for PC.

Nice to get a response on this one. I dig your angle on the PC - i play a lot of emulated games on it myself! - but i wasn't saying the PS3 is better. Where i'm coming from is that i like the machine, regardless of how it compares to other consoles and computers - in a similar way, i like other consoles like the DS and Gamecube, even though they've been superseded now. And, as i'm a fan, i wanted to show my fandom - so it's not an attempt to prove how great the system is, just a little tribute to say 'i likes it!'. As for games, i'm a big fighting games player, so i'm in it for games like Tekken 6 and Street Fighter 4.

Thankyou for the feedback, Jake - nice to hear from a fellow gamer on DA.

It's not that they're better or worse than each other. It's just that right now, all the consoles are equally shitty compared to the PC. It was different when the SNES or the Sega Genesis was out, because computers were still much in their infancy along with the Internet. Hell I still remember spending hours upon hours on Zelda: a link to the past, Just to get through one dungeon.

A Link To The Past... now there is a game for the ages. As for the console-PC comparison, i'm not so blinkered that i don't agree with your reasoning - the PC is a far more versatile and advanced gaming platform than even the current generation of consoles. I don't know why i like the consoles so much... maybe i'm subliminally clinging onto my childhood or something. :D

I know what you mean. I still cling on to my childhood with classic games like DOOM on my X-box live arcade, and the Sonic Mega Collection on my PS2 that has Sonic 1, 2, 3, and Sonic and Knuckles. I saw so much potential in that game, but it was all destroyed when Sony launched the PS2. Another reason why my hatred for Sony still burns. I absolutely hate what they've done to Sega. Thanks Sony, you ruined my childhood.

I used to hate Sony big-time as well... i used to be a hardcore Sega Saturn fan, back in the day... it would have been great for gamers if the two had co-existed. Also, what happened to Lik-Sang was un-necessary, and deprived a lot of people of a great online shop.

BUT...

There was a point a while back where i realised two things.

a) My dislike and boycotting of Sony products wasn't having any effect, and i was actually missing out on some great games by refusing to play on certain consoles. It was begrudingly done, but i'm now of the opinion that it's not about the consoles or the company politics, it's the games that matter, regardless of the system they're on.

b) Speaking of company politics, i also realised that it's not a personal thing. As far as i know, Sony aren't out to kill traditional gaming with their money machine - but videogames are huge business now, and to let the opponent have an advantage could be a costly mistake. For instance, there was some spat way back when about a major game (i think it was Tomb Raider) being pushed back on the Saturn so that Sony could have the exclusive launch. TR was a huge game at that time, and if Sony hadn't have done something drastic, Sega could have had a massive foothold in the industry, and may well still be working on gaming hardware.

In short, i can well sympathise with the childhood-ruining antics of big companies, but it's important not to let it get to you. If it annoys you and starts eating away at you about how unfair it is, then the blow is compounded.
